Linking out to publications

The European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) is a huge data hub allowing further enrichment of GGBN's data. ENA stores ca. 92 million crossrefs between annotated sequence records and pubmed and further 500.000 crossrefs between annotated sequence records and DOI. Via the ENA numbers that are related to GGBN records it is now possible to add pubmed IDs and DOIs to GGBN records. We are using custom downloads from ENA to find matches and the pubmed and Crossref API to get metadata for each publication. In addition some of our members provide lists of related publications for their records which we have included as well. Similar to the parent enrichment for the GGBN-ENA crossrefs the connection to the publication is done for the parent material records as well.

Example of a DNA record with publication and sequence information. Its parent tissue and specimen inherit these connections, while the other related tissues don't
Example with four related publications. For one of these two more GGBN records are found

Some publications are related to hundreds of thousands of GGBN records, e.g. Hebert, PD. et al., 2016 https://www.ggbn.org/ggbn_portal/search?pubId=27481785
